The Difference Between Job Boards and Job Board Aggregators
Just like a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn’t a square, job boards and job aggregators overlap with their definition. They are similar, but their differences are there, take a look:
Job Board
A job board is where an employer or recruiter can post job ads directly and these boards host original listings. Employers or recruiters pay to put their job postings on the site.
A job board can often cater to a niche industry, profession, or specific location. Traditional job boards, such as LinkedIn, will typically host a variety of vacancies to cater to a larger pool of candidates and utilise the job market.
On job boards, employers and recruiters can typically access applicant tracking systems (ATS), tools to manage candidates, and analytics on their job postings, in order to track applicants.
Job Board Aggregators
Most job board aggregators gather job postings from across the internet and aggregate them into a single site and platform for candidates to be able to see multiple jobs from multiple job boards, recruitment agencies, career sites, and other sources.
Job board aggregators allow a comprehensive search experience, similar to a search engine, to allow a job seeker to search various job boards and multiple job sites at the same time, no matter the job type they’re looking for.
Job board aggregators allow employers to benefit as well, because it allows for more visibility for their jobs listed on the aggregator. An example of a job aggregator would be Google Jobs, Glassdoor, and even Indeed.
The main difference between a job board and a job board aggregator is that a job board hosts original listings, while a job board aggregator gathers jobs from across multiple sites. At the end of the day, both facilitate job search and recruitment, so both recruiters, employers, and job seekers can find the right talent and the role.
